Why do we hate? Well… we don’t always hate bumper stickers. Some of them are witty. Some of them make us think. Some of them scold us into being less horrific drivers than we normally are. Then there are the rest of those bumper stickers out there that just don’t make sense…
The idea of bumper stickers is so- black and white. Its about taking your deeply held convictions and fitting them into 3×11″ of vinyl. Its about forcing your beliefs on others without respect to their personal experience or perspective. Its about your opinion defining who you are to the world.
Difference of opinion and strongly held beliefs aren’t a bad thing. In fact, they are fabulously good for democracy and innovation. Yet when you try to sum those believes into a bite-sized morsel stuck on the back of your car, suddenly your lofty values seem trite.
The mission of ihatebumperstickers.com is to provide an outlet for having meaningful and unhurried discussions about real issues. To give a voice to the complexity of issues that can’t fit into a bumper sticker- but are worth talking about. Please read, respect, and engage with your fellow bumper sticker haters, and don’t forget to send in your bumper sticker sightings for us to talk about!
